SharePoint

Find, browse and read documents on your organization's SharePoint sites in AI conversations — read-only, within your own permissions.

The Intric SharePoint integration lets you use files from your organization’s SharePoint sites directly in AI conversations. Once connected, you can ask an assistant to find, browse, and read documents, without leaving Intric.

The integration is read-only. Intric cannot create, change, upload or delete anything in SharePoint.

When the SharePoint integration is enabled on an assistant, the assistant can:

  • List document libraries — the libraries (drives) on each site the assistant has access to
  • Browse folders — the files and folders in a library, one folder level at a time
  • Search a library — find files through Microsoft’s search index, which matches file names, content and metadata
  • Read a file — download a file and extract its text, so the assistant can answer from it

The assistant decides which of these to use from your question, so you do not need to navigate the files yourself. All four run without asking you first, unless your administrator has changed that.

The assistant can read the content of:

  • PDF (.pdf)
  • Word documents (.docx)
  • Excel spreadsheets (.xls, .xlsx)
  • PowerPoint presentations (.pptx)
  • Text and Markdown files (.txt, .md)

Other files, including older Word (.doc) and PowerPoint (.ppt) formats, appear in lists and search results, but the assistant cannot open them.

  1. Open Integrations in the left sidebar
  2. Switch on SharePoint
  3. Sign in with your Microsoft account and approve the requested permissions

Once connected, any assistant with the SharePoint integration enabled can reach SharePoint on your behalf. If SharePoint is not on the page, your organization has not enabled it.

Your personal permissions apply: Intric only reaches files you already have permission to see in SharePoint. Connecting your account does not grant access to anything beyond your existing SharePoint permissions.

Your organization’s Intric administrator decides which sites Intric can reach, not you. Each site has to be granted to the Intric app in Microsoft 365 and then added in Intric, with a name and a short description that tells the assistant what the site contains.

An assistant can be narrowed down further. Whoever builds the assistant can open Configure on its SharePoint integration and choose Restrict to specific sites — for example, so that an assistant for one team only works with that team’s site. Without a restriction, the assistant has every site the administrator has added.

Describe what you are looking for in your own words. For example:

  • “Find the Q1 budget spreadsheet on the Finance site”
  • “What does the onboarding policy say about remote work?”
  • “Are there any presentations about the product roadmap?”

The assistant searches and browses SharePoint to find relevant files, then reads and summarises them for you. If it needs to look in several libraries or folders, it does so on its own as part of the conversation.

  • Read-only: the assistant cannot create, edit, upload or delete files
  • File types: only the types listed above can be read; other files can be found but not opened
  • Search is per library: each search covers one document library, so the assistant may search several in turn to cover a whole site
  • One folder level at a time: finding a deeply nested file may take the assistant a few steps
  • Sites are chosen in advance: you cannot add a site from within Intric; ask your administrator if one you need is missing
  • Your permissions are the ceiling: connecting Intric does not expand your SharePoint access beyond what you already have

Open Integrations, switch off SharePoint, and confirm with Disconnect. Intric stops reaching SharePoint on your behalf at once. Your Microsoft account and SharePoint files are unaffected.

If you have also connected Outlook, Teams, or OneDrive, those connections remain active and are managed separately. See Outlook, Microsoft Teams, and OneDrive.
