Conversation history and storage
Where conversation history is kept, how long it stays, and what happens to files you upload in a chat.
Conversation history is stored per user and per assistant. It stays until either you delete it or a retention policy removes it, and it isn’t visible to other people unless Insights has been switched on for that assistant.
What is stored
Section titled “What is stored”Each conversation stores your messages, the assistant’s responses, any files you attached, and — where applicable — the tools the assistant called while answering.
Files uploaded in a conversation
Section titled “Files uploaded in a conversation”A file you upload directly in a conversation is available in that conversation only. It doesn’t persist beyond it, and it isn’t shared with anyone else’s conversations. For material an assistant should always have access to, attach it to the assistant instead — see Attachments.
How long history stays
Section titled “How long history stays”By default, a conversation stays until you delete it. If the assistant has a data retention policy configured, messages older than that period are deleted automatically instead. See Data retention policy.
Who can see it
Section titled “Who can see it”Only you, by default. Assistant insights — if a Space admin has switched it on for that assistant — makes the full conversation history visible to Space editors and admins as well.
