The Intric SharePoint integration lets you use files from your organization’s SharePoint sites directly in AI conversations. Once connected, you can ask an assistant to find, browse, and read documents — without leaving Intric.
The integration is read-only. Intric can never modify, upload, or delete files in SharePoint.
What the assistant can do with SharePoint
Section titled “What the assistant can do with SharePoint”When the SharePoint integration is enabled on an assistant, the assistant gains the ability to:
- Browse document libraries — list the available drives (document libraries) within a SharePoint site
- Browse folders — explore the contents of a drive, one folder at a time
- Search for files — search across a drive using Microsoft’s search index, matching file names, content, and metadata
- Read file content — download and extract text from a file so the assistant can reason about its contents
The assistant decides which of these actions to take based on your question — you don’t need to navigate the files yourself.
Supported file types
Section titled “Supported file types”The assistant can read the content of the following file types:
- PDF (.pdf)
- Word documents (.docx)
- Excel spreadsheets (.xls, .xlsx)
- PowerPoint presentations (.pptx)
Other file types (including plain text files) can be browsed and found via search, but their contents cannot be read by the assistant.
How to connect your Microsoft account
Section titled “How to connect your Microsoft account”Before you can use SharePoint in a conversation, you need to connect your Microsoft account:
- Go to My Integrations on New Intric (v4)
- Find the SharePoint integration and click Connect
- Sign in with your Microsoft account and approve the requested permissions
Once connected, any assistant with the SharePoint integration enabled can access SharePoint on your behalf.
Your personal permissions apply: Intric only accesses files you already have permission to see in SharePoint. Connecting your account does not grant access to anything beyond your existing SharePoint permissions.
Which SharePoint sites are available
Section titled “Which SharePoint sites are available”The sites available to you in Intric are controlled by your organization’s Intric administrator, not by you. Administrators choose which SharePoint sites the Intric app is permitted to access at the tenant level. You can only work with sites that have been explicitly allowed.
Some assistants may be further configured to work with only a subset of the allowed sites — for example, an assistant dedicated to a specific team or project might only have access to that team’s site.
Using SharePoint in a conversation
Section titled “Using SharePoint in a conversation”You don’t need to specify commands or navigate manually. Simply describe what you’re looking for in natural language. For example:
- “Find the Q1 budget spreadsheet in the Finance site”
- “What does the onboarding policy document say about remote work?”
- “Are there any presentations about the product roadmap?”
The assistant will search and browse SharePoint to find relevant files, then read and summarise the content for you.
If the assistant needs to explore different drives or folders to locate a file, it will do so automatically as part of the conversation.
Limitations
Section titled “Limitations”- Read-only: the assistant cannot create, edit, or delete files
- File types: only PDF, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files can be read; other formats can be found but not opened
- Folder browsing is one level at a time: the assistant browses one folder level per step, so finding deeply nested files may take a few steps
- Site access is pre-approved: you cannot request access to additional sites from within Intric; contact your administrator if a site you need is missing
- Your permissions are the ceiling: connecting Intric does not expand your SharePoint access beyond what you already have
Disconnecting your Microsoft account
Section titled “Disconnecting your Microsoft account”To disconnect, go to My Integrations and click Disconnect next to the SharePoint integration. Intric will immediately stop accessing SharePoint on your behalf. Your Microsoft account and SharePoint files are unaffected.
