Geoportal NRW
What applies at a location in North Rhine-Westphalia — landscape and water protection areas, development plans and cadastral parcels, from four state sources at once.
One question, four state geodata sources: whether a spot in NRW sits in a protection area, whether a development plan covers it, and which cadastral parcels are there.
What it is
Section titled “What it is”North Rhine-Westphalia publishes its geodata as open services. This integration queries four of them together and returns a single answer for a location — because the useful question is “what applies here”, not “what does each of these four registers say”.
A location can be given as an address, or as a cadastral reference (Gemarkung, Flur, Flurstück) where that is the identifier to hand.
Use it for
Section titled “Use it for”- “What applies at this address — is it in a protection area?”
- “Is this parcel covered by a development plan?”
- “Which cadastral parcels are found at this location?”
- “Is this site inside a water protection zone?”
| Function | Answers |
|---|---|
| Usage guide | When to use an address and when to use a cadastral reference — the assistant reads this first |
| Location lookup | Landscape protection areas, water protection areas, development plan coverage and cadastral parcels at one location, in one call |
Two tools, and the second does all the work. The four sources are combined behind it rather than exposed separately, because a partial answer from one of four is worse than no answer.
Data and permissions
Section titled “Data and permissions”- Open state geodata, no key. Nothing about your organisation passes through.
- Read-only.
Getting started
Section titled “Getting started”Add the MCP server to an assistant and ask. German addresses work best — the sources are German.
Limitations
Section titled “Limitations”- North Rhine-Westphalia only. No other Land, and nothing federal.
- Coverage is not permission. Knowing a development plan covers a parcel says nothing about whether a specific proposal would be allowed under it, and a protection area’s existence does not tell you what it prohibits.
- Give an address or a cadastral reference, not both. They are alternative ways in, and passing both is a mistake the usage guide warns about.
- Depends on four upstreams. If one state service is down, that part of the answer is missing and is reported as missing rather than silently dropped.
