Environmental data (Copernicus and SMHI)
Air quality, threshold alarms, fire risk, algae bloom and bathing water status — live, with source and timestamp on every value.
Live data on air, water and fire risk, pulled from SMHI and Copernicus Marine and handed to the assistant as pre-interpreted values — with a source and a timestamp on every figure.
What it is
Section titled “What it is”An integration layer for environmental data. It fetches measurements from SMHI’s data service and from the EU Earth observation programme Copernicus, normalises them, and passes them on as structured values the assistant can reason about.
The governing principle is that missing data is shown as missing. A value that does not exist is never filled in with an estimate, an interpolation or a guess — every answer carries its source, its timestamp and its quality flag.
Use it for
Section titled “Use it for”- “What is the air quality in the city right now, and is any environmental quality standard being exceeded?”
- “Which measuring stations have been above the limit value in the past week?”
- “Show the nitrogen dioxide level at this station as a time series.”
- “What is the fire risk in this area over the coming days?”
- “Is there algae bloom off the coast right now? Show it on a map.”
- “What is the bathing water status at this site, and how has it developed this summer?”
| Function | Answers |
|---|---|
| Usage guide | How to interpret the values and what caveats apply — the assistant reads this first |
| Latest value | Current measurement per station and parameter |
| Time series | How a parameter has developed over time |
| Threshold alarms | Which stations and parameters are above a threshold value |
| Fire risk | Fire risk index for an area |
| Algae bloom | Chlorophyll levels from Copernicus Marine for a sea area |
| Algae bloom map | The situation as a map image in the chat |
| Algae bloom warnings | Areas that have reached warning level |
| Bathing site status | Current status for an individual bathing site |
| Bathing site series | The sampling series for a bathing site, with a chart |
| Warnings | Active warnings, collected |
| Map background | Base map to place measurements on |
Data and permissions
Section titled “Data and permissions”- Live on every question. There is no local data store that can go stale. Algae bloom data is cached for at most an hour, to avoid loading the source unnecessarily.
- Open sources. SMHI’s data service, Copernicus Marine and the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management’s bathing site data — no customer data passes through the integration.
- Maps and charts are delivered as images directly in the chat, without the chat loading anything from an external address.
Getting started
Section titled “Getting started”Add the MCP server to an assistant and start asking. No keys, no accounts and no configuration required — the integration only talks to open data sources.
Limitations
Section titled “Limitations”- Coverage follows the measuring stations. If there is no station in the area there is no value, and the answer says so.
- Forecasts come from the source. The integration does not compute its own forecasts or trends — a fire risk index is SMHI’s assessment, passed along.
- Depends on source availability. If SMHI or Copernicus Marine is down, that is reported as missing data, not as a zero.
- Decision support, not regulatory decision-making. The values are the published measurements. Formal assessments against environmental quality standards remain with your environmental administration.
