Copernicus hydrology
Flow, water level, water temperature, precipitation, groundwater level, humidity and official water shortage warnings, live from SMHI and SGU.
The water picture for a location — what is flowing, what is standing, what is falling and what the authorities have warned about — assembled from the two Swedish agencies that hold it.
What it is
Section titled “What it is”A live connection to hydrology and water supply data from SMHI (meteorology and hydrology) and SGU (geological survey). It covers surface water, precipitation, groundwater and the official water shortage warnings issued against them.
It is a sibling of the environmental data connection and deliberately separate from it: the two serve different questions and are versioned and released independently.
Use it for
Section titled “Use it for”- “What is the flow and water level here right now?”
- “How much precipitation has fallen over this catchment this month?”
- “What is the groundwater level, and how does it compare with normal?”
- “Is there an active water shortage warning for this area?”
- “Show it on a map.”

| Usage guide | Which agency answers which question — the assistant reads this first |
| Hydrology | Flow, water level and water temperature |
| Precipitation | Rainfall over a period |
| Groundwater level | The groundwater situation, from SGU |
| Humidity | Air humidity for the location |
| Water shortage warnings | Official warnings currently in force |
| Map background | Base map to place the measurements on |
Data and permissions
Section titled “Data and permissions”- Open sources, no key. SMHI and SGU. Nothing about your organisation passes through.
- Read-only.
- Live at every question. No local store that can go stale.
Getting started
Section titled “Getting started”Add the MCP server to an assistant and ask.
Limitations
Section titled “Limitations”- Sweden only.
- Coverage follows the measuring stations. No station means no value, and the answer says so rather than interpolating one.
- A warning is the authority’s, not ours. Water shortage warnings are relayed as issued; this connection does not assess, predict or downgrade them.
- Groundwater moves slowly and is measured sparsely. A single reading is a poor basis for a short-term conclusion, and the normal comparison matters more than the absolute number.
- Not an operational control system. This is decision support for people who already understand the hydrology, not a substitute for the monitoring a water utility runs itself.
