The Intric Gmail integration lets you search and read your emails directly in AI conversations. Once connected, you can ask an assistant to find messages, summarise threads, and surface relevant information from your inbox — without leaving Intric.

The integration is read-only. Intric can never send emails, reply to messages, or modify your mailbox in any way.

When the Gmail integration is enabled on an assistant, the assistant gains the ability to:

  • Search your inbox — find emails by sender, recipient, subject, keyword, label, or date
  • Read email content — retrieve the body of an email and reason about its contents
  • Browse labels and folders — list emails within a specific Gmail label or category
  • Read attachments — extract text from supported file types attached to emails

The assistant decides which of these actions to take based on your question — you don’t need to navigate your inbox yourself.

When reading email attachments, the assistant supports the following file types:

  • PDF (.pdf)
  • Word documents (.docx)
  • Excel spreadsheets (.xls, .xlsx)
  • PowerPoint presentations (.pptx)

Other attachment types can be identified but their contents cannot be read.

Before you can use Gmail in a conversation, you need to connect your Google account:

  1. Go to My Integrations on New Intric (v4)
  2. Find the Gmail integration and click Connect
  3. Sign in with your Google account and approve the requested permissions

Once connected, any assistant with the Gmail integration enabled can access your mailbox on your behalf.

Your personal permissions apply: Intric only accesses your own mailbox. Other users’ inboxes are not accessible through this integration.

Section titled “Admin consent and organizational requirements”

Google classifies the Gmail scope used by this integration as sensitive. In Google Workspace organizations, administrators control whether users can grant third-party apps access to sensitive scopes. Many organizations restrict this by default.

Your Google Workspace administrator must explicitly trust the Intric app before any user in the domain can connect their Google account. If you see an error when trying to connect, contact your Google Workspace administrator and refer them to the Gmail setup guide.

Personal Google accounts (outside Google Workspace) are not subject to these restrictions and can connect directly.

You don’t need to specify commands or navigate manually. Simply describe what you’re looking for in natural language. For example:

  • “Find the email from Marcus about the invoice from last month”
  • “Summarise the email thread about the Berlin workshop”
  • “Do I have any unread emails from the finance team?”
  • “What did the client say in their last email?”

The assistant will search your mailbox and retrieve the relevant messages, then summarise or reason about the content for you.

  • Read-only: the assistant cannot send, reply, forward, label, archive, or delete emails
  • Your mailbox only: the integration accesses your personal Gmail inbox; other users’ accounts are not accessible
  • Attachment types: only PDF, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint attachments can be read; other formats are not supported
  • Inline images: images embedded in email bodies cannot be read or described
  • Admin consent may be required: in Google Workspace environments where third-party app access is restricted, an administrator must first approve the Intric app (see the setup guide)

To disconnect, go to My Integrations and click Disconnect next to the Gmail integration. Intric will immediately stop accessing your mailbox. Your Google account and emails are unaffected.

If you have also connected Google Calendar, that connection is managed separately and will remain active. See Google Calendar.
